The Ad: Prequel to Minority Report
Next time that you are outside close your eyes for a quick second okay for a long second no how about three seconds now open them look around. What do you see? Chances are if you are any major or mid major metropolitan city you are going to see an ad. That's right welcome to the ad invasion. As advertisers think of more ways to annoy us I mean to show off their abilities to promote anything to us, ads are just about everywhere.
Even the "incredible edible egg" is now a billboard as CBS has stamped the egg with the names of its television shows. Beyond the egg ads some supermarkets are even letting companies places ads on the LCD screen of the cash registers while people are in line ready to pay for their goods. Motion sickness bags have been branded by companies as well as the usual suspects bus stops, train stations or any other place people congregate.
Yet with everything people can go to far, in San Francisco a "Got Milk" billboard began to emitting the odor of chocolate chip cookies at bus stops which did not sit to well with the public. When we are not being invaded by sensory intense ads in the public our televisions, movies and even video games are slammed with oodles and oodles of brand marketing.
I guess a TV show is nothing but an extended break in between commercials. Of course there is the always ever present ads (spam) in our e-mails, ads place all through a website and yes speaking of technology we have the latest and greatest thing the digital billboard as billboards will soon constantly change the way that information is being pumped into our bodies and minds.
With ads just about everywhere the only true ad free zone is in our minds so go ahead and close your eyes I know I am right now.............. wait minute when I closed my eyes I swear I saw the Nike Swoosh....
