Darth Vader
Dipping into the world of Star Wars for a second to talk about the loss of human consciousness. To all you anti sci-fi fans out there you really are missing out on something by not watching Star Wars and no I am not trying to convert you into a geek or anything.
The story of Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) and his son Luke Skywalker is one dealing with consciousness or what is it exactly that makes us human. See most people see Vader as some half android and half human or just a villain. The plot runs deeper than that however. See before becoming the Vader of steel and hardwire Darth was better known as Anakin Skywalker a person with much potential and was all flesh. For a slew of reasons that I will not touch on in this post Anakin slowly lets his temper get them best of him and becomes such a hothead that he does not listen to anyone. So one time he foolishly runs into a battle and loses his arm. Now since this is a movie of course the arm can be replace and it is but is metallic not flesh think of a bionic limb with no flesh on it.
At this point Anakin still has not learned his lesson and slowly begins to betray all of his friends and in the process is wounded badly to be more blunt about it he loses his legs and both arms and burn nearly to death by fire. He would have died but a man by the name of Darth Sidous rescues him of course for his own purposes and in the process to save him every part of flesh that Anakin loss was replaced by robotic part even his respiratory system depends on artificial parts.
As the story progresses Luke Skywalker comes along and is on the same path as his father Anakin Skywalker now known as Darth Vader. Luke takes the same path as his father joins in with a revolutionary group in attempt to overthrow an evil empire takes up the code of honor and fighting system as Anakin and even rushes into his battle headstrong and in the process loses his hand just like father did.
However, here is where the story takes a turn Luke slowly improves his skills and feels that he is ready to take on the evil Vader and Darth Sidous the leader of this sickness. Once again Vader skills prove to be powerful for Luke and he becomes frustrated and basically loses it and attacks Vader with so much hatred and in the process he lays a smack down or two on Vader even slicing into his mechanical arm.
Sidous is impress and it is revealed to Luke that Darth Vader is actually his father and everyday Luke is becoming more and more like him. This causes Luke to look at his mechanical hand and see where this is going and instead of continuing on with this madness he decides enough fighting… a few more things happen but that is not point of this thread…
Once you strip away the wonderful tale woven by George Lucas what you really have here is the lost of human consciousnesses which in this story is represented by the replacing of human flesh which has feelings with hard cold robotic steel. No sensation, no imperfection just perfect.
So now everyone take a look in the mirror and see if you are becoming a Vader yes a machine cold, cunning and calculative and not a care in the world for you fellow man or are you a Luke Skywalker a human with feeling and compassion and more importantly sympathy for your fellow human. Just something to think about ….
P.S. no one get out of hand I am not trying to tell the whole story of Star Wars that is why I kept my interpretation for general so a non Star Wars person could follow along…
