The Loop

I know that so many of you attention spans have shrunk to the life span of a fruit fly but do you remember what country the USA first attack after 9/11? Afghanistan ring a bell does it? The purpose was to eliminate the Taliban and in that five-year span what has happen? Has the Taliban been eliminated, nope unless the aforementioned elimination is from the minds and mouths of the public. Actually the Taliban has become stronger in Afghanistan and now is slowly spreading its reaches into Pakistan. Taliban officials are using a recent deal with the government of Pakistan to expand its numbers.

The Taliban are slowly growing in ranks in North Waziristan making this area a hotbed for foreign fighters who want to over throw the local government and wrestle control from local tribes.

This is the same lesson that Afghanistan learned in the 90’s that ungoverned spaces are a problem. Is this a flashback to the early 80’s when Arabs, Pakistanis and other Muslims joined Afghans in their fight to drive the Soviets out of Afghanistan or is it a case of history repeating? They were armed with a network of training camps; religious schools set up by the Pakistani intelligence agency and financed by the Saudis and more importantly the C.I.A.

This practiced continued with Pakistani and Qadea support through the 90’s and then moved into Afghanistan under the Taliban. It was here the Pakistanis became drawn into militancy in big numbers.

After retreating from Afghanistan in 02 under American military attacks, the Taliban and foreign fighters are again using the tribal areas to organize themselves. The clears sign of this dangerous combination is the suicide bombings. Something they have learned from Al Qadea, since such tactics were unknown in Pakistan or Afghanistan before 01.

All of this is leading to a bloody 07 in this region…..
