The MacBook Pro Part 1?
Now that some time has passed it is only fair to talk about the MacBook Pro. Just in case you have been under a rock for the last few weeks. The MacBook Pro is the latest line of current professional laptops offered by Macintosh. Apple feels that since that they are switching from the PowerPc processor chip to the Intel (Intel Core Duo) chip they want to eliminate the word power from their product line. So no more Powerbook it is now the MacBook Pro and the PowerMac may become The Mac Pro or the Mac. Added to this equation is a clever branding attempt Apple wants to highlight the term Mac in their product line. That means that the iBook may become the Mac Book separating it from the MacBook Pro just as the iBook was separated from the Powerbook in the consumer professional dividing line.
Of course the specs on this machine are amazing, 1.67 or 1.83Ghz Intel Core Duo processor, up to 2Gb in RAM can be added, up to 100Gb 5400-rpm or 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive etc etc… You can find more on the specs at Apple’s Website. When the dust clears I am not really a spec guy I am a real world performance guy. Some of the new features that have left people drooling are the built-in iSight camera, Front Row and Mag Safe connector.
With the iSight built in camera one has the ability to chat via video on iChat or any other web chat software and for more the professional user the iSight camera gives you the ability to create a video podcast or if you search the web hard enough you will find a few websites that show how one maybe able to create movies via iSight. If you decide to go in that direction learn the limits of the iSight cam.
Front Row is a software that allows you to view your digital work and play anytime, anywhere. Front Row allows one to access their music, movies, photos and play DVD via remote so no more going up to your computer to show off your latest creations.
The Mag Safe is the new power adapter that uses a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So now tripping over your cord will not send your laptop crashing to the ground.
One new addition in the MacBook Pro that will be over look by most but is very important is the 256MB video memory, throw any type of visual task at this machine and it is going to eat it up.
This concludes part 1 of the MacBook Pro coming up in part 2 we will discuss the pro and cons of the MacBook Pro.
