Trials and Tribulations Part 2

Leading in right from where I left off at with my Earthlink experience. Well after finally receiving a refund for the $120 Earthlink charged to my card for no apparent reason things were swell. However after long once again Adam was being booted from the Garden of Eden, for some reason my DSL connection would not stay connected for more than two minutes at time. After trying every trick that I knew under the sun it was time to call Earthlink again. This time tech support was very helpful well maybe I should say respectful but no go my connection was still not working properly.

After being bounce around to a few different people no one was still able to help me and each person basically told me to do the exact opposite from the next one. Finally Earthlink decided to dispatch a repair guy to my apartment to check my line to see if my connection stem from a line problem or something. Of course with Earthlink dispatching a repairperson actually turns into a test of one’s restraint. Now what I mean by this is after setting up the date and time the repair man was suppose to come I receive a call from Earthlink saying that the appointment of course to a day and time that I would not be home.

So the appointment was reschedule for a week and a half later, keep in mind that during this waiting period my DSL connection is not working. Earthlink’s response to this was well if you want to access the internet you can use our dial up service. Now I am not ungrateful nor am a complainer but if I wanted dial up from Earthlink why would I sign up for DSL service geesh people work with me.

Next phase, on the day the repair person from Earthlink was suppose to show no one did after a quick call to Earthlink in which they stated that the appointment was rescheduled to later in the week wow, no one told me this. Of course the day Earthlink chose for the repairperson to come was a day that I would not be home and there was no way I could be there. So once again we had to reschedule to the middle of the following week. Scorecard recap now I have been without high-speed connection for almost two weeks.

In checking my balance I noticed that Earthlink had already billed me my regular monthly bill but and yes there is a but on top of not having service for a little more than two weeks I was being charged $29.95 which was $10 more than the $19.95 I was signed up for. So once again I am on the phone with Earthlink and the young lady that I spoke to in billing was very impolite. When I question her on why my bill was $29.95 her response was because that is how much our service cost monthly. When I told her that Earthlink had signed me up for $19.95 for 12 months she said, “ that their policy was only $19.95 for six months” even if that was so why was my bill $10 more than that she went silent. After placing me hold for about 10 minutes she came back and said,” that was nothing she could do about my charge because I had an open file pending from the repair man” that has yet to show. So now I have the attitude not only am I being overcharge I am also being charge for a service that is not working.

Well, after all of this the repair man finally shows this Monday and guess what he was from SBC. Now in the state of Michigan SBC controls all of the phone lines so any phone company or internet company that wants access to their lines can have them but SBC is in control of everything. The SBC guy showing up was a disappointment and a blessing in disguise. The disappoint was that I already knew that the SBC repairman was not going to come into my house because I do not have SBC Yahoo DSL basically the SBC repairman was only going to check the dispatch box located in the basement of the building to see if the connection was okay. Now if Earthlink had told me this in advance I would not have to be there for this at all, that is why we have a manager. Of course the SBC repairman did not find anything wrong with the line and by contract he cannot come into my apartment to see if there is something wrong on the inside. After he left once again I call Earthlink to see what is the next step that we can take to get my DSL connection stable.

Well Earthlink’s response was professionalism at its best,” we know that SBC can not enter your apartment to see if something is wrong your system from the inside we suggest that you call a 3rd party specialist to see what is wrong.” Wow, are you guys going to pay for it and of course the answer was no. So now I am responsible for getting my DSL connection back online myself.

Enough is enough I finally had reach my breaking point and I ask was there anyone I could talk to about canceling my service with Earthlink. To be continued…
