Here comes the rain again, falling on your head...
The whining has begun; with the release of new G4 PowerBooks on February 1st, 2005 Apple finally has received some jeers from the faithful following. After the cheers heard around the world from the most recent product releases at Mac World San Francisco last month to many this new release or better upgrades to the PowerBook line has left a foul taste in the mouth of many Apple users. Why has this recent upgrade by Apple frustrated a few of its listeners? Only one reason G5, everyone wants a G5 Powerbook and many people felt that a G5 Powerbook was right around the corner regardless of all the different comments from Apple itself that the G5 Powerbook was going to be a minute.
That is the beauty of technology is that for its die-hard fans they always want more the "latest and greatest" piece of equipment on the market. Now a G5 Powerbook would be and will be one day a great machine but for a G4 and for that matter even a G3 Powerbook is more than adequate enough for the average and even mild hardcore computer user.
While pirates surround the ship of the latest Powerbook upgrade ready to Apple walk the plank for not releasing a G5 Powerbook. In all of this madness they are overlooking a pretty decent upgrade. Adding Sudden Motion Sensors is a great benefit considering the number of people who drop their laptops are all breathing a quick sigh of relief.
Updating the standard HD speed to 5400 rpm was a great plus although this option should have been a standard the moment that iLife which includes Garageband is included in all Apple computers.
I really like the fact that Apple has added audio in and out to the 17 - inch G4 Powerbook. I have had my eyes on that model for sometime and since most of my work is in audio and video this little feature may help.
Though I know an Apple Powerbook G4 is not strong enough to handle audio production and video editing only a G5 is adequate enough. Though I have been editing since the days of the Pismo. It is so amazing when the G4 chip came out how it was top of the line and could handle so many applications and now it is not powerful enough to edit video and audio.
While many of you await the arrival of a G5 Powerbook to edit video using Final Cut Pro HD I have seen people edit HD on Final Cut using a Titanium G4 Powerbook and Final Cut Pro 4. Let’s be honest when any computer is release it is the thing to have and the best product available at that time so do not downplay your Powerbook G4 too much. It is still a great machine with that is capable of doing many wonderful things. So while you contemplate on should you buy a Powerbook now which are in their fourth revisions 12 and 17 – inch and third revision 15 – inch meaning that most of the bugs have been workout or buying the revision A model G5 Powerbook consider this, people who want to be the first in line wait a lot while things get repaired.
